College football rankings and research

About RankCFB

RankCFB is an independent college football rankings and research site. We test the sport's rankings against what happens on the field and publish our methods. We share our data on request, and fans can make their own Top 25 to see how it holds up.

How RankCFB Started

Zac

Hi, I'm Zac. I started RankCFB with a question every fan has asked: is the AP poll actually any good? I wanted an answer that didn't depend on whose team you root for, so I checked every game between ranked teams since the poll began in 1936, nearly 2,800 of them. Now RankCFB keeps score on the rankings every week, and lets fans make their own Top 25 and see how it compares to the committee, the AP and other fans.

RankCFB is independent. No sportsbook, school, conference or media company pays for it.

What We Publish

Rank your Top 25. Start from the CFP rankings or the AP poll. Pick 12 to 25 teams, and gold shows the 12 teams your ranking would put in the playoff. Make your Top 25

Review what fans think. See where your ranking stands with other fans and how every major Top 25 compares. See this week

Research who got it right. Our reports test how the rankings hold up, using our own analysis of poll and game data. Our lead report, The AP Poll's Worst Stretch in 40 Years, and What It Means for the CFP, looks at 90 years of AP polls. Read the report

Where the Data Comes From

Corrections and Updates

When we correct a figure, we note it on the report with the date. We save each week's report at its own dated address in past versions. When we expand a report, we update that copy and say so on the page.
